Between the years of 18, over half a billion of the coins were struck with 96 different date-and-mint combinations, making a compete set almost impossible to acquire.Ĭomplicating collection even further, the Pittman Act of 1918 resulted in many of the Morgans being melted down and restruck as new coinage. Morgan was chosen to design the new coin. ![]() Consequently, silver interests persuaded those in Congress to pass the Bland-Allison Act which required the Treasury to purchase between 2 and 4 million troy ounces of silver each month to be minted into silver dollars. This was significantly depressing the silver market. The Comstock Lode had been discovered in Nevada, and was yielding an estimated $36 million dollars a year worth of silver ore. However, political forces, and not demand, would push the issuance of a silver dollar again. In fact, the Liberty Seated Dollar, which was its predecessor, had last been issued in 1873. In the mid 1870's, there was really no demand for silver dollars. THE DOCUMENTARY CREW MAY HAVE HAD A TRAGIC REASON FOR COVERING DUNDER MIFFLIN. They did make Michael's office a little bigger to accommodate cameras, and since they were on a sound stage, they could control the weather. The show's first season was shot in a real-life office in Culver City, California, so when they transitioned to a sound stage for the second season, the crew had to rebuild it and stock it with supplies to make a perfect replica. THEY ALSO RECREATED THE OFFICE SPACE FROM SCRATCH. According to Novak's DVD commentary track for "The Dundies," the first episode of the second season, they also made the lights in the office brighter to help complete that tonal shift. In an attempt to boost ratings after the first season, the producers pivoted the show's style away from the British version to make Michael Scott more likable and make the episodes more optimistic. ![]() THEY LITERALLY MADE THE SHOW BRIGHTER FOR SEASON TWO. They even had Internet, which helped the cast feel like they were in a real-life office. The now-iconic song came from a demo by composer Jay Ferguson, which was then re-recorded by musician Bob Thiele Jr. When it came to the show’s opening theme music, series creator Greg Daniels gave the cast four versions of the song and let them vote on the winner. That’s when the people behind the show learned that their audience skewed young, rather than the white-collar workers they thought would be watching. Around the second season, when NBC made the show available on the platform, it took up four of the top five slots for downloaded television shows. One thing that helped save the show was iTunes. According to Krasinski, they would say things like, “This episode is so good-unfortunately, it’s the last one we’re going to do.” 9. During the first season, NBC executives would bring a lot of pessimism to the set. It was hard for the cast and crew to have faith early on. ![]() Daniels believes that the show really branched out into its own entity in the second season. Many viewers questioned this decision, but it had to be done considering NBC bought an adaptation. The pilot was shot with essentially the same script as the pilot from the British show. However, when it comes to results, they couldn’t be more different-they’re opposite operations. Well, they’re similar in that they’re both very common commands in Git and both are related to network operations. Git Push: What’s the Difference?Īnother common question beginners have when it comes to git pull is how it compares with git push. In other words: git pull = git fetch + git merge. After fetching, you can merge the received commits into a local branch, using git merge.Īnd what about git pull? You can think of this command as a shortcut: it does all of the above in a single step. When you run this command, Git fetches the new commits from the remote. Git fetch, to put it simply, is the process of updating the remote-tracking branches. Let’s see how they’re similar and how they’re not. Despite being related, they’re two different operations. ![]() It’s common for beginners to mix up git pull and git fetch. What Is the Difference Between Pull and Fetch in Git? Then, your local branch is compared to the remote-tracking branch and receives the new commits so it can catch up to the current state of the remote branch. First, your remote-tracking branch is synced with the “true” branch in the remote repository. Git pull, in a nutshell, is a two-part process. What Is Git Pull, Really? How Does It Work? Time to understand git pull more in-depth. You can think of remote-tracking branches as “read-only” branches that mirror the state of the actual remote branches. Remote-tracking branches are references that live in your local repositories. Your remote repositories also have their branches, which are appropriately called “remote branches.” The last part of this tripod is what makes the whole thing possible: remote-tracking branches. How does that work in practice? For starters, you have your local branches in which you do your work. As soon as you get your remotes configured, you can send and get commits from the branches in your remotes. And, despite being common for projects to have a main remote playing the role of a “central server,” you can also have other remotes configured.įor instance, you can add your coworker’s repository as a remote so both of you can collaborate. As we’ve mentioned, you can have any number of remotes. You collaborate in Git by exchanging information with your remotes. You Collaborate in Git by Sending to and Getting From Remotes In practice, however, most projects will have a “main” remote, which acts as the de facto central server. Instead, in Git you can have any number of remote repositories, or simply remotes. Git is a decentralized VCS, which means there’s no central server. Git commits are identified by a unique-ish identifier, which is calculated based on their data, including the name and email of the author, time stamp, commit message and the commit’s parents. ![]() Instead of storing the patch-that is, the actual changes introduced-they store a whole snapshot of the project in a specific instant. Unlike in other VCSs, commits in Git aren’t deltas. To better understand git pull, you need to understand how network operations work in Git. What is git pull? In a nutshell, it’s the command you use to update your repository with new changes. Git Pull 101: Understanding Git Networking As is usual for these tutorials, we assume you have Git installed and are at least familiar with working with the command line. You’ll learn what this command does and how to use it, in addition to learning useful fundamentals about network operations in Git. This post will explain git pull in detail. To sync with remote repositories, you’ll need to master Git network operations, including git pull. Most of the time, however, you’ll be collaborating with other people. If you’re working alone on a project, you can use Git locally just fine. |
